Eco Exhibition 2010 at SMK Setapak Indah

On the 30th June 2010, the Toyota Eco Rangers Club of Sri Aman was invited by the Toyota Eco Rangers of SMK Setapak Indah to hold an exhibition in their school for their Eco Exhibition 2010. On that same day, their school had an open day. Thus, this will make spreading awareness on saving the environment to parents, students and staffs of SMK Setapak Indah a considerably easier task.

The exhibition started at 8.00am. Our booth was located beside the Toyota Eco Ranger club from SMK Aminudin Baki. We set up our booth while feeling excited about the day that lies in wait. Besides Toyota Eco Rangers clubs, there were many other booths from different NGOs like Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, YAWA, Obon and other environmental NGOs. Besides that, there was also a blood donation booth.

Through our exhibition booth, we met many friendly Toyota Eco Ranger members from other schools. They were easy to talk to, especially the hosts, SMK Setapak Indah members. We were also entertained by the Eco Drum Band of Setapak Indah every few hours. Their instruments were made of recyclable items such as paint pail, drink cans, and even dustbins. We were amazed by their creativity in making instruments out of recyclable items. They proved that there are indeed, numerous ways recyclable items can be given second lives.

Besides Setapak Indah, SMK Aminudin Baki also made various types of crafts out of recyclable items. Examples of those items included a small purse, a cool game that was made from a plastic bottle and also a minature Menara Kuala Lumpur. They told us that they require at least a week to make a purse. We were surprised to hear that their job requires truckloads of patience.

We were then served some refreshments to boost our energy as there were many other things we shall experience that day. Then, as we were explaining our school's eco-projects to visitors to our booths, we were surprised by the fact that most of them had never heard about the Rainwater Harvesting system, bio enzyme and also compost. They were thrilled to learn the steps of making compost and bio enzyme so that they can make the aforementioned products at home.

Another section of our booth which attracted many interested and intrigued visitors was the section where visitors were allowed to taste the herbs drinks we prepared. Most of the visitors enjoyed the drinks that we prepared especially the Kaduk-Kaduk herb drink as they have never heard of such a plant. Time passed by, and before we knew it, it was time to pack up our booth before the closing ceremony began. The closing ceremony started off with the distribution of certificates to exhibitors followed by a performance by the Eco Drum Band. Then, exhibitors were served with refreshments before they were asked to paint on a piece cardboard to show that they were involved with the exhibition. We decided to paint a tree using our hands before signing our initials.

I must say that the tree we painted was rather creative, considering that it was hastily completed in five minutes. It was a wonderful experience for all of us as we learnt a lot from others and even helped our mother earth by raising awareness on the importance of saving the earth.
