Meeting - 25/1/2010

Our second meeting was held on Monday, 25th of January 2010. All members of T.E.R. were divided into NINE groups to avoid noise making during the meeting. Some were UNHAPPY :( as they were separated from their buddies. Then, Group 1 to Group 4 weeded the Herbs Garden as it had TOO MUCH of weeds growing in it while Group 5 to Group 9 were in-charge at the Mini Eco Jungle. The members of Group 5 to Group 9 watered and fertilized the plants at the Mini Eco Jungle. As this coming week we are going to pack bio-enzyme, all members were instructed to bring 5 EMPTY MINERAL WATER BOTTLES (500 ml) AND A TUPPERWARE OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLE PEELS. After the bio-enzyme is packed, the AJK Sales who are Thilaga, Alina, Santralega and Siti Hajar will be SELLING IT TO THE TEACHERS. A few bottles will also be USED FOR OUR VERY OWN HERBS GARDEN!

Here are some pictures of the second meeting :

Signing off for now,

A NEW DESIGN FOR A NEW YEAR!

Check Out Our Logo!

Check out this new logo that has been created by our very OWN president, Nur Farhanah Adam Malik

New Year, New Board.

The new year brings with it a massive influx of new members, which is something we have been looking forward to for ages, as the biggest obstacle that lies in our paths when it comes to getting certain things done is lack of manpower. The meeting this week was the first meeting of the year attended by the new members, and they were given a very warm welcome by the old members.

The main agenda of the day was to appoint a junior board of directors to step into the shoes of the senior board of directors consisting mainly of Form 3 students when their greatest fear of the year-PMR is right around the corner to prevent them from blaming any lack of A's on Eco Ranger work. :) Curse that Farhanah for being able to know what's going on in our twisted minds :(

Not many changes have been made to the senior board of directors, but the addition of a completely new board is something to blog about. Here's the list of the board of directors for the year 2010, both senior and junior.

Trip to Petrosains - 23/1/2010

As a token for winning Anugerah Hijau, we got 60 free tickets to Petrosains. We were ecstatic upon hearing the news. Not because Petrosains is an awesome place or anything. But because this meant a trip to KLCC and shopping would be the main agenda. Little did we know (or at least, I know), we were too busy visiting the Petrosains that we barely had time for lunch before the teachers forcefully usher us to the bus.

We left school at 8 am. All were merry and cheerful. My fellow AJK Blog- Angela however had a different idea of being cheerful. If you get what I mean. :P

Upon arriving, we immediately realized that KLCC was barely open yet at that time. All shops were closed and the escalators weren't even working yet. And when we arrived at the entrance, it wasn't open yet. So we waited for half an hour and finally got in.

The trip started with a cup twirling Malaysian ride. It's basically a cup, twirling while a man narrates. It was fun and all. So yeah. After that, I took the liberty of posing in front the supposedly sun

And then we start our journey into the exciting world of Science. -__-

I saw loads of stuffs. Manipulation of lights and shadow produce these:

both are wayang kulits.

After that, we went to see the oil stuffs.

This basically tell us how to save petrols buy following the speed limit yaddayaddayadda.

And then, of course, there's the prehistoric time:

There, we got to smell the sweet smell of prehistorical air. Which I'm sure are just fart from 10 people combined together and put into a container for us to smell. Seriously, it smells terrible. -__-

At 12.00 p.m., we made our way out from Petrosains. We went to lunch and waited for the bus. We had fun. :) Here are some pictures for your viewing....

15th January 2010 - A new beginning.

Last Firday, 15th January 2010, was Sri Aman Co-curriculum registration. And of course Eco Rangers was one of the clubs that were involved in this registration. Unlike last year, this year's Eco Ranger is consists of Rainwater Harvesting, T.R.E.E.S, Compost and of course, us. For the registration, our team is called tree planting department. But we've already discussed our new name because according to Farhanah, tree planting department is simply too dull for the awesome and legendary formerly known as Eco Rangers. Angela Chong Wan Zhen came up with the name Green Fingers. So, bye bye, Eco ranger, hello, Green Fingers.

The responses we received were certainly encouraging. So we hope that Green Fingers will receive as many members as we needed to help we achieve all of our goals in making the Earth a better place to live.

So cheers to another awesome year of saving the environment. :D

Veritas Fund For Excellent 100 Trees

On the 13th December 2009, the Verita Fund For Excellence 100 Trees was held at Rumah Pengasih Malaysia located in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur. As well all already know, 13th December is of course, a school holiday which is why we are suppose to salute Atikah, one of our mighty team members who took the liberty to go to this Verita thingy.

By the way, I totally know what Verita means. It's French for 'truth'. Okay, that's not relevant with this topic at all. Back to the main point.

The aim of this program was to plant at least a hundred trees at the Rumah Pengasih. That is one hundred trees lads and wench. 1 0 0 trees. Which mean to say that it was a lot of trees.

The program started with a very fascinating speech by VERITAS, YAWA and also by Tan Sri Dr. Salleh Md Nor. The pretty and talented Aishah Sinclair, the YAWA ambassador showed guests the correct way to plant those trees. Because as the ambassador of YAWA, she would totally know how to plant trees. So thank god for her. After that, the VIPs plant the trees.

After breakfast, the program began without a glitch. The best part was, they managed to plant around 200 trees. After that, a workshop on Composting and Bio Enzyme was held. The workshop, I am sure, changed lives of many guests that were lucky enough to be there. I mean, Composting AND Bio Enzyme, WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THOSE KIND OF STUFFS?

The program ended right on time for lunch. Of course, lunch was provided. A fact that made Atikah a very happy person that day. :)

The program, according to Atikah, opened her eyes on the importance of preserving the earth. I mean, where else can we live beside earth? Sure, it would be much cooler to live in Mars but we can't do that now, can we? Atikah certainly hopes that more of these kind of events would be held in the future.

Bio Enzyme Workshop

Hello, beautiful world! I hope you haven't missed me too much, though you must have, because my absence from this blog is presumably too much for you to handle :)

I'm updating this blog based on what I've heard from the other members who were lucky enough to be present on the day the Bio Enzyme Workshop was held. (It's OK, half of us have no idea what it meant prior to the workshop, as well) Please do not fault me for any inaccuracy regarding the events of the day itself.

Us being the 14 and 15 year olds we are, none of us have any idea regarding how to go about making bio enzyme. Thus, the help of Uncle Fikri was enlisted.

Well, I have absolutely no idea how to skirt around the entire point of this post any longer, so here's how you make bio enzyme: http://www.o3enzyme.com/enzymeproduction.htm
